Manitoba Sun Safety Tips

June has been coming in hot!

Small outdoor gatherings and walks with loved ones have been so valuable during these weird times, and sunny weather makes these moments extra lovely. Plus, getting some fresh air and vitamin D can do wonders for your mental wellbeing. But, if you really want to relish a long day in the sun, you’ve got to take sun safety seriously.

Here are three top tips for protecting yourself from damaging UV rays this summer:

Wear Sunscreen & Reapply Often. A blistering red sunburn isn’t the only sign you’ve had too much sun. Skin cancer can affect people of all ethnicities and complexions. For optimum skin protection, you should apply sunscreen 15–30 minutes before going outdoors and reapply regularly throughout the day (typically every 1–2 hours).

Keep Track of Time. The sun’s rays are most intense between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. If you can, limit your sun exposure between these times.

Protect Your Eyes. Extended sun exposure can leave your eyes stinging, red, and watery. Not fun! To protect your eyes and the delicate skin around them, throw on a pair of shades with 99% to 100% UV absorption.
